Buyer - Basildon, Essex. Hybrid 3 Days Office Based.

We are hiring a Buyer who is passionate about introducing a purchasing structure and fresh ideas. This role offers opportunities for growth and career development with a global organisation.  

Overview:

A leading provider of innovative solutions in the technical space, our global client prides itself on a collaborative team culture where creativity, ambition, and teamwork are celebrated. As they continue to expand their operations, we are seeking a vibrant and ambitious Buyer to join a team of three and progress into a leadership position in time. 

As a Buyer, you will be vital in sourcing and procuring items necessary for B2B projects. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting initiatives, collaborate with suppliers, and contribute to the achievement of business objectives. This role is perfect for someone with 2-4 years of experience in procurement looking for the next step up and a chance to make a real impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a live list of requirements issued via the ERP system.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to determine their suitability for each project and obtain quotes.
  • Understand budgetary and timing requirements driven by project objectives.
  • Raise purchase orders within the ERP system and release them to suppliers.
  • Monitor progress with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Coordinate with production and stores teams to manage delivery dates and availability of supporting information.
  • Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for faulty items and follow through to credit or replacements.
  • Support the department in maintaining up-to-date records relating to suppliers, including conducting supplier visits and inspections.
  • Source and recruit new suppliers through online research, calls, and visits to determine suitability.
  • Collaborate with the accounts department to support supplier invoice processing and company cash flow.
  • Attend and contribute to internal design reviews to understand upcoming work and make suggestions for cost reduction, lead time improvement, or quality enhancement.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Occasional travel, including overnight stays, may be required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • ERP experience.
  • Mechanical, Manufacturing or Engineering degree OR 3+ years of experience in a similar industrial role would be ideal.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. 
  • A full UK driving license will be needed due to occasional travel.
