Day-to-day activity:

The Assistant Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational running of the store and supports the Store Manager in the overall commercial success of the store. You are expected to set a high example for your team and be pivotal in creating a great team spirit in store.

Responsibilities are varied and include stock room management, shop floor management, keyholder duties, overseeing staff, delegating tasks, monitoring performance, training new starts, handling escalated customer and staff grievances in a professional manner, and providing an excellent in-store experience for customers.

The Assistant Manager is second in line in terms of management after the Store Manager and takes over the duties and responsibilities of the Store Manager in the event of their absence.

This is very much a floor-based role; managing the stock room & shop floor to ensure the day-to-day business operations run smoothly, so enjoying a fast-paced role is vital.

What background and experience are the company looking for?

  • 2 years+ in a simliar fast-paced retail role or someone who is looking to step-up into an Assistant Manager role.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the store, working within the Company standards, strategies, and initiatives.
  • Delivering excellent customer service standards by example, always ensuring highly visible and effective customer service management.
  • Assisting the Store Manager with recruiting, training, managing and setting direction for all members of the store team to ensure high performance / productivity at all times.
  • Assisting the store manager with staff scheduling and stock ordering.
  • Continually training staff to a high level in all aspects of retail work -till operation, customer service, product knowledge, merchandising, stock replenishment, store cleanliness
  • Working closely with the Store Manager, Store Visual Merchandiser and Area Manager to ensure the brand image is always showcased through outstanding visual merchandising and shop floor standards.
  • Supporting new ways of working to improve efficiencies and streamline the business.
  • Enforcing a safe working environment through staff and customer safety procedures.
  • Creating a positive and proactive work environment for your Team, by leading with a 'can-do' attitude. The Company encourages and promotes a strong culture of teamwork and positive attitude towards colleagues and tasks.
  • Able to competently use company data systems to retrieve and review reports, to ensure you are working commercially to drive sales.
  • Ensuring that stockroom processing and replenishment procedures are in place and that recalls, and transfers are completed effectively and in a timely manner
  • Being flexible in your approach to work in line with the needs of the business.
  • Being flexible to travel to other stores in Northern Ireland if required to support management work in other stores or to cover absence periods of other managers.
  • Walking the shop floor regularly, talking with customers and team members in
    order to identify and resolve potential and real-time service issues.
  • Managing conflict in a professional manner
  • Addressing and resolving customer complaints in a professional manner.
  • Keyholder duties, including opening and closing the store in line with Company guidelines, setting intruder alarm and keeping store keys secure. Immediately reporting any loss of keys or breach of security to your manager
  • Processing customer payments and refunds using the shop's Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • End of day cashing up and float management.
  • Cash Safe management and G4S lodgements
  • Utilising the SameSystem Check-In App to comply with our workforce management system for scheduling rotas, booking holidays, setting tasks and time registration and ensure your team are using this system correctly.
  • Ensuring end-of-day cleaning duties, which includes cleaning till areas, emptying bins, cleaning store fixtures & displays, as well as sweeping/hoovering and mopping the shop floor have been completed.
