Our client are a leading distributor who, due to continued growth & expansion are looking to add a Senior Assistant Buyer to their growing purchasing team.

The Role

Joining as a Senior Assistant Buyer, you will work in a small team, tasked with building supplier relationships, carry out estimating, cost-saving exercises, and product range development of a designated product category..

Your main tasks will be:

• Sending bespoke/new product enquiries to suppliers & Identify best potential supplier(s) for the enquiry
• Check specifications received from sales are accurate and include all information supplier needs to quote.
• Choosing suitable supplier for a bespoke/new product. Make decision on most suitable supplier based on pricing, capabilities, quality etc.
• Place first orders for new lines - Raise Purchase Order for new product(s) as per Sales Order from customer.
• Offer support to Sales for technical aspects of bespoke products.
• Create and manage tenders
• Finding new suppliers - Negotiate with suppliers based on pricing, payment terms and service agreements.
• Product Development & Range Expansion - Suggest new product additions for the catalogue within the category to Commercial Director.

What We Are Looking For

The successful Senior Assistant Buyer should be able to demonstrate:

• Proven experience as a Assistant Buyer or similar role
• Experience working within the FMCG (or similar) industry would be beneficial but is not essential
• Commercial awareness – knowledge of company direction and targets.
• Understand gross profit.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external parties including overseas suppliers.
• Ability to gather detailed product knowledge from internal stakeholders.
• Ability to negotiate with suppliers & manage critical path
• Experience of working on tenders would be advantageous
• Strong analytical skills
• Knowledge of the Microsoft package
