The Role

Is there a more important part of a retail business right now than its training department? That’s not to take anything away from the store teams, those at the coal face that put in the work but retail has to move with the times and businesses must get their stores running efficiently and, perhaps most importantly, get their service and experience proposition right. This job is all about shaping and formulating the training program to ensure that happens. It’s a big job. But one where you could really make a difference.

You’ll be responsible for

  • Identifying training needs within the store teams and then devising and implementing a range of store and classroom-based training programs.
  • Training retail teams in all aspects of their roles, ensuring timely follow-up on training needs, the continual review of training materials and processes and the overall delivery of a commercial and effective training strategy.

You’ll support a Regional Manager and be heavily involved in the day-to-day operation of the business. The training function is there to produce tangible commercial results so you’ll be focused on helping others achieve just that.

The Person

So, you’ll be a trainer obviously. The job’s all about engaging people as you know so you’ll have the personality and skills to do that. It helps if you’ve been in retail ops too because training is really all about improving a company’s performance through its people, right but, if you’re a great trainer, you can probably take that experience anywhere? The business is growing, opening 10 stores a year, so an eye for emerging talent would be good and if you can design training programs as well as implement them, so much the better.  The role will cover a region covering the North of England and central Scotland and candidates are required to be based on the area.
