Sue Ross Recruitment are working with a successful and well established manufacturing company in the recruitment of a Purchasing Manager.

Business is booming and due to continued success require a Purchasing Manager to oversee all purchasing operations:

You will be responsible for purchasing goods, materials and services to ensure that the company operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply.

Key duties:

  • Drive best value purchasing and process into the business, with strategic approach to deliver targeted savings whilst ensuring the companies operating needs are met and guaranteeing continuity of supply
  • Purchase goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations
  • Responsible for continuing the dual source strategy to minimize risk and safeguard customer requirements and ultimately creating a world class supplier base
  • Drive  lean initiatives and process improvements
  • Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, in particular when there is a risk which could prevent the organization meeting customer demands or where there are over capacity concerns
  • Support product change requests and review and communicate the impact on capacity plans
  • Establish standardized processes underpinned by continuous improvement.
  • Continue full cross training within the department and sustain a portfolio of written work instructions
  • Manage a skills matrix for the Purchasing Department
  • Evaluate, monitor and report supplier scorecard performance
  • Manage supplier Audits from an operational capability standpoint
  • Liaise with engineering to identify areas of standardization and optimal design solutions for procurement
  • Co-ordinate with cross functional business teams to develop the best strategy for production planning to support customer demand
  • Assist with internal and external audits
  • Support in maintaining stock codes, costs, prices and product data in the company ERP (Syteline)
  • Work with logistics, accounts and suppliers to resolve discrepancies
  • Collect and analyse data including reporting KPIs and supplier scorecard.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Senior/management purchasing experience  
  • Assertive, resilient and welcomes change
  • Good Supplier negotiation and communication skills
  • Understanding of ERP system and good computer skills

  • Working hours for this role are: 38.5 per week (Monday through Thursday, 08:00 to 17.00 with a 30 minute break and Friday 08.00 to 12.30).
