The Buyer role is a position that will work with a pre-established supply chain team. The Buyer will have the full accountability for a large number of supplier accounts, 80ish in total, for a £5m spend.

You will use your negotiation skills to achieve cost reductions with the suppliers whilst still maintaining exceptional service levels.

As the Buyer, you will also build great relationships with suppliers so that they produce and supply great quality goods in the right quantities, at the right time and at a great price.

If and when supplier issues arise, you will thrive in getting to the root cause and solving them effectively and efficiently. You will be a confident individual, with a drive to succeed, even when the pressure is on!

Main Duties / Responsibilities:

+ Manage and negotiate effectively with suppliers to drive cost reductions on all products purchased.
+ Build great relationships with suppliers to achieve competitive trading terms.
+ As part of the Supply Chain team, maintain/improve stock availability and service levels from our suppliers.
+ Communicate with suppliers using a range of methods including face-to-face, email, telephone, Skype etc.
+ Work closely with our Quality department making sure all goods purchased meet our rigorous quality checks.
+ Maintain accurate electronic files for each supplier and create part numbers accordingly.
+ Report back to the business of any price changes, making sure all affected parties are informed.
+ Agree and confirm packaging / labelling and product presentation and communicate to internal stakeholders.
+ Evaluate and select suppliers based upon quality, delivery & cost.
+ Raise purchase orders from MRP reports.
+ Undertake management reporting -PPV, cost down activity.
+ Project Manage transfer projects and cost down initiatives.
+ Manage NPI across multiple sites.
+ Budget and analyse financial forecasts based upon given targets.
+ Develop current and future new product strategies with the Engineering team to optimise costs.


+ Experience working in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
+ Be working towards or have a CIPS qualification or equivalent.
+ Successfully delivered tangible cost down projects.
+ Experience of working with and manipulating complex data / financial information.
+ Strong Excel knowledge & competent working with other financial management tools
+ Excellent negotiating and influencing skills.
+ The ability to build good working relationships, both internally and externally.
+ Strong analytical skills.
+ A good understanding of MRP Purchasing reports.
+ The ability to think strategically and develop creative and innovative improvement ideas.
+ Resilience with a positive, can-do attitude.
+ Strong communication and influencing skills with sound commercial awareness.
+ Willingness to travel is essential - within target regions primarily, but also occasional travel internationally (as required by the business).
+ Ability to work well within a team and independently.
