Job description:

We design and manufacture tactical apparel and equipment, composite materials and armour for police and military in over 50 countries.  We are a young, lively office, and we are growing fast.  We are looking to add a Bid Manager  who will be part of a competitive sales team. 

Responsibilities include the introduction and implementation of all necessary bid procedures, governance, and processes. This is a highly networked role that requires an ability to work under pressure and to challenging deadlines. It will require strong people management and commercial skills.

 The role will be:

  • To manage the bid qualification (bid go / no go) process for new opportunities

  • To review previous tender/bid applications and supporting the sales team

  • Responsible for the tenders that come through the already existing network of sales agencies in different countries

  • Applying for participation in bids by going direct to different tender portals, eg NATO and to end users

  • Be required to prepare a winning bid, whilst taking ownership of the end-to-end bid process

  • Responsible for managing an opportunity from qualification through to contract award, including value proposition,strategy development, solution development, commercial considerations, partner identification, and risk management. 

  • Working with teams and inputs from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from sales, marketing, product development, finance, commercial, and production teams.

  • Preparing and reviewing the commercial aspects of the bid, ensuring all services are included in the final price to the customer

  • Risk tracking and management throughout the bid process

  • Contributing to the written proposal - both in terms of content and presentation (such as preparation of a management summary)

  • Manage the bid budget

  • Ensure timely delivery of compliant and commercially sound bids

  • Understand and resolve complex technical, strategic and business issues

  • Arrange all post bid reviews with customers, post contract award

The candidate must be/have:

  • An excellent communicator.

  • Relationship-building and influencing skills

  • Sound commercial understanding, P&L and risk management skills

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Good attention to detail

  •  Fully conversant with the competitive marketplace

  • Solid understanding and implementation of internal governance procedures.

Education & experience:

  • Formal degree/diploma - APMP Practitioner or Professional level

  • 3 years or more of proven experience of working on bids from start to finish of the process

  • Preferred: experience working within the defence industry and having submitted bids on MOD
