Our client is looking to recruit a commercially minded Senior Retail Insight Analyst to join their team in London. As Senior Retail Insight Analyst you will have a huge passion for data, the ability to forecast successfully and thrive on working in a fast paced team. You will be responsible for analysing and identifying factors that affect the success and failure of retailers, owning analysis across several data sources, helping create forecasting algorithms to predict performance of markets, retailers, channels and categories. Ideally the successful candidates will bring with them strong analytical and technical experience, have studied or have a strong active interest in Economics and the ability to drive accuracy and scalability of forecasting models. Role responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility for our clients forecast database
  • Identify key market, industry, company and consumer factors that impact performance using data such as societal, economic, industry and financial data to develop proprietary solutions in partnership with the engineering and data science team for time series forecasting
  • You will work with our engineers to design new interfaces to deliver faster, more impactful insights to our clients.
  • Tracking key market developments and economic issues, monitoring the key implications for retailers and manufacturers and feeding these into forecasts
  • You will identify new data sources and hypotheses and work with the data science team to build models that improve forecasting effectiveness and accuracy
  • Evaluate effectiveness and accuracy of forecasts
  • Manage the ongoing development of businesses model forecasts and methodologies, including new forecasting methodologies for emerging business models
  • Influence key business decisions in resource allocation for top brand manufacturer and retail clients
  • Build predictive models to anticipate market, channel, retailer and category value and volumes fluctuations before they occur
  • Assist in scenario analysis, developing “what-if” hypotheses based on historical or extrapolated data
  • Design rich data visualisations to communicate complex ideas to clients.
  • Leverage story-telling skills to deliver insights that are clear, concise and actionable.
  • Provide critical insight and discussion on global economic issues implications on manufacturers and retailers
Skills and experience required
  • Strong academic background, educated to degree level or above in Economics (or equivalent)
  • Highly numerate, statistical or econometrics background desired
  • Desired experience in building Macro-economic and financial (company) models
  • Desired Experience in retail, e-commerce, strategic/management consulting, equity research or similar industries.
  • Strong research track record.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in using Business Intelligence Platforms
  • Exposure or desire to be exposed to coding languages: Python, SQL and R.
  • Previous experience within the FMCG or retail sector desired
  • Passion for the food and grocery industry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a polished professional approach
  • Comfortable networking with senior individuals including board level
  • The capability to “speak the language” of ecommerce
  • Problem solver and a self-starter – must be able to think on your feet and react calmly under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail – we strive to ensure that everything we deliver is at a premium level
  • Self-motivated - able to work independently and take responsibility for all aspects of the job in hand
  • Flexible – must be willing to be involved with / lead on ad hoc projects beyond core role and willing and able to travel internationally as necessary
  • Results-driven – generating ideas, but also seeing them through to completion and execution in a rigorous, data-driven, organised manner
