We are seeking a confident and driven Assistant Buyer to join our small but dynamic procurement team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of saving money in procurement, specifically goods used in production. If you are a technically competent individual who thrives on negotiating the best deals and getting stuck in to drive cost savings, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing relationships with existing suppliers for timber and other consumables.
  • Continuously seek out opportunities to reduce costs and improve procurement processes
  • Support the negotiation of favorable terms and pricing with suppliers to achieve cost-saving targets
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and ensure timely delivery of goods
  • Stay up-to-date with market trends and pricing to make informed procurement decisions
  • Maintain accurate records of procurement activities and cost savings achieved
  • Support the development and implementation of procurement strategies

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience in procurement, ideally within the manufacturing or construction industry
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build effective supplier relationships
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Confidence in making procurement decisions and driving cost-saving initiatives
  • Good telephone manner and proficiency in MS Office
  • Willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and get things done

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven track record of achieving cost savings through effective procurement strategies
  • Experience in sourcing and procuring timber, ironmongery, glazing and other materials used in garden buildings
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a drive to continuously improve processes and deliver results
  • Able to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively

  • Candidates without any procurement or purchasing experience
  • Those who are uncomfortable negotiating with suppliers or lack the confidence to drive cost savings
  • Individuals who struggle to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Those who are not able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Candidates who are not willing to "roll up their sleeves" and get involved in all aspects of the procurement process
